Event description

Description

Calling all women who love improv!

There’s a new women’s improv group in London, and it’s called:

What, More Women?

We’ll be holding a series of introductory workshops on alternating Tuesdays & Thursdays from the 16th January onwards and we’d love you to come along.

You can come to one session, you can come to all the sessions, you don't have to attend the first session to attend the other sessions; it's up to you!

Who are these workshops for?

Anyone who self-identifies as female (including non-binary), who is aged 16 & over, who has some previous experience of improv. People who are relatively new to improv and highly experienced improvisors are all welcome!

If you’ve never improvised before but are interested in the group, we hope to plan events in the future which will be open to first-timers.

What sort of group is it?

We expect the flavour of the group to emerge and develop over time depending on the tastes of its members. In the meantime, what we will particularly be exploring in the introductory workshops are the following:

  • Giving voice to women’s stories and characters

  • Own gender casting: to be clear, we are not anti blind casting/casting outside of people’s chosen gender; in this group we simply wish to own gender casting as a tool in order to discover and showcase the breadth women's stories and variances in character attributes without the need to introduce male characters.

  • Improvising without the main focus being competition; we want to encourage comedic & joyful scenes, but there’s no pressure for anyone to be funny.

Long term aims: we’d like to start performing in public as a group, but we’re also keen to keep the group open to those who enjoy improv but would rather not perform.

The workshops

7pm - 9pm: Warm-up games, exercises, scenes; all the practical & fun stuff.

9pm - 9:30pm: Optional. Cup of tea & a sit down to discuss the night’s work. We’ll be having some reflective discussion as we go along, but it’s nice to have some time at the end too.

A few other things

It’s helpful if you book for the event in advance, but you’re also free to turn up.

In order to cover running costs, a donation of £3 would be very welcome, but by no means mandatory; pay what you can and if you can.
