Central Saint Martins hosts New Writing Platform on whether playwrights can cross borders others can’t
The new MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London and Central Saint Martins has announced the second event in its new series The New Writing Platform.
The New Writing Platform series is an occasional series of talks and events run in partnership with the dramatic writing industry, providing a platform to share and explore new ideas going on in the dramatic writing industry.
The second event will be run by dramaturg and writer Caroline Jester, who has developed international playwriting projects in Germany, Poland, Croatia, Italy and the US including Europa (Methuen) and has been Literary Manager and Dramaturg at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Caroline has been working with students on the MA Dramatic Writing course at Central Saint Martins and with writers at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb Croatia on a pilot project exploring international digital playwriting collaborations.
Caroline will share the results of the pilot alongside an In Conversation event with writer Tena Štivičić, whose play 3 Winters is currently on at the National Theatre. Students from the MA Dramatic Writing course will facilitate a discussion on whether playwrights should collaborate beyond their national border and how language barriers can be explored dramatically.
MA Dramatic Writing Course Leader Jennifer Tuckett said: “We are delighted to be running our second New Writing Platform event. The series is a new series aimed at finding a new way of bringing Universities, the public and the industry together to share and explore new ideas going on in the dramatic writing industry.”
