Start point: Jasper's Coffee House, Braithwaite, Keswick
Length: 10.5 km (6.5 miles) with 157m (515ft) of ascent
Time: 5 hours (approx.)
Walk grade: 3 (see grade description below)
This walk starts from Braithwaite and follows a rough track to reach the Newlands Valley. From there it follows a mixture of quiet lanes and fields to the base of Catbells. It then follows the Cumbria Way towards Portinscale before turning west to follow Newlands Beck back to Braithwaite.
Paths are generally good but there are some sections that will be muddy and/or slippery in poor weather. There is a short stony ascent not far from the start.
Grade 3 walks may include some moderate ascents and descents. The path surface might be earth, grass or stone and – while generally firm – it will have some loose or uneven sections, or be soft underfoot after rain. You will also encounter steps, gates or stiles and narrow sections. Most of our grade 3 walks are suitable for families.
Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather. Weather permitting, we will be stopping for a short break on route so please bring refreshments if you wish.
