Description

Every year The Student View in partnership with Goldsmiths College, School of Journalism host a an event to celebrate our journalists' hard work and commitment to the programme.

This year TSV's journos will receive talks from a prominent politician and two leading figures in the media. Speakers include Joseph O'Leary and Professor Angela Phillips. Joseph is a senior writer from Full Fact the UK's independent fact-checking charity, he is keen to teach our journalists how to spot fake news. His work includes fact-checking Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn's manifesto promises for the Evening Standard every day during the recent General Election.

Professor Angela Phillips will explore the causes and consequences of the fake news phenomenon. Professor Phillips has been a journalist for over forty years, starting in the alternative and feminist press of the 1970s and moving on to work for national newspapers, magazines, television and radio (the BBC and independents). Angela is the chair of the Ethics Committee of the Coordinating Committee for Media Reform. She gave evidence to the Leveson enquiry into the press.

Students will receive free lunches and a goodie bag. They will be able to eat their lunches on the lawn at Goldsmiths, hopefully, the weather will be great!
