Event description

Description

BBC Connected Studio and BBC News Labs are holding a collaborative hack event in London on 31st January & 1st February 2017, exploring the use and development of tools in Machine Assisted Transcription. We are inviting teams who are already working in this area to take part, this includes work in speech to text/text to speech. Please supply a couple examples of work relevant to this project.

Machine Assisted Transcription tools are of huge benefit for delivering news, not only in the UK but to emerging markets and areas with low data coverage and/or high data costs; a growing issue within the BBC World Service and other leading players in this field. We're looking for prototypes that focus on either audience facing formats or journalistic efficiency.

A few examples to get you thinking…

  • Tools for editing video and/or audio from text transcription
  • Tools that generate automatic subtitles
  • Tools that are useful to mobile audiences

Prizes will be awarded in various categories TBA nearer the event. Please check back for further updates.

While there is a competitive element, the main purpose of this event is networking and collaboration in this space, and to connect the BBC with people in this field.

Please ensure you register the names of your full team.

Please note, this is not an overnight hack.

If you have any questions, please email us at connectedstudio@bbc.co.uk

Best wishes,

BBC Connected Studio & BBC News Labs team
