NEWSROOM BOOTCAMP - using TV News to hardwire your team’s communications & soft skills!!

Learn from nearly 30 years’ newsroom experience from a BBC TV reporter and presenter to help teams work faster, hit deadlines and get more done on the day

In just over one hour, you’ll debate news on the spot. You’ll hold snap news meetings, interrupted by breaking news. You’ll write headlines on a deadline. You may even read off the newsreaders’ teleprompter!

Five memorable “Newsroom Secrets” will ensure the learning sticks

You’ll come away energised, focussed, amused, understanding each other better — and ready to tackle your business challenges, on the day

About the Speaker

John Young is a BBC TV presenter who has distilled the energy of a working TV newsroom into a range of edge-of-the-seat keynotes and workshops.

They reveal in jaw-dropping detail how seat-of-the-pants TV News production can be. But John doesn’t just bask in the audience’s fascination. He then makes it relevant, with key business messages about pivoting skills, crystal clear communication, time management, leadership and courage. They are his own product, not the BBC’s, but are based on nearly 30 years’ on-going experience in the front line of daily news reporting at the corporation.

They are also a fascinating insight into how the media works — without being ‘media training’ — and are a lot of fun.

John’s clients include EasyJet, American Express, Gatwick Airport, Vistage, the English Rugby Football Union and Kent County Council — he has also delivered his workshops as a Guest Speaker to passengers on board P&O cruises and (as a professional member) the Professional Speaking Association.

John joined the BBC from Cambridge University as one of 12 news trainees in 1989. This provided him with two years’ training in BBC editorial standards, before choosing his own path as a reporter and presenter in Southampton, Belfast, Truro, Newcastle, Bristol and Brighton. He also worked as a reporter in the late 1990s in the national BBC newsroom.

In 2009, he was selected for a year’s secondment as a Trainer of incoming journalists at the BBC Academy. Here, he was able to observe and develop various cutting edge training tools to ensure that workshops are interactive and enjoyable, as well as effective.
