Event Details

You are all warmly welcomed to the AGM & London Chapter Meeting where we will be focusing on Next Generation in the cyber security world.  As ever the industry is looking for skilled people to work in the cyber security field. Now and in the furture, the industry is particularly keen to encourage more young people and women into profession. So how can we do this? We explore how our speakers launched their careers into the wolrd of cyber and hope to offer insights into how this was acheived.

As usual we will be welcoming some of the UK's top cyber security speakers and we thank Grant Thornton for sponsoring this event.

We conclude the event with drinks and networking, where you will get the opportunity to meet with your peers and discuss your cyber security challenges in an informal atmosphere.

3 CPE points will be awarded for attending the whole session - register today!

4:30 - Registration and Refreshments

5.00 - Opening, Gabe Chomic - ISSA-UK President

5.10 - 'An Alternative Route' - Freya Basey, Assistant Manager, Digital Fraud and Security, Group Digital, Lloyds Bankng Group

Freya Basey is a young cyber security professional who started her career in security as an apprentice in the Physical & Personal Security department at Lloyds Banking Group. During her 18 month apprenticeship, she demonstrated a clear passion towards Information & Cyber Security and even gained her CISMP at age 19. Her dedication and enthusiasm towards the subject matter helped her to secure a role in the Digital Cyber Security team within Lloyds Banking Group and she will be using her innovative approach towards security to manage the Group’s digital footprint going forward. Freya is also a great advocate of apprenticeships and alternative routes into work, regularly giving talks at schools and organising events for young people in order to raise awareness of different career paths and opportunities in the security industry. Her passion for encouraging and supporting the next generation comes from her own unique story that paved the way for her entry into the industry.

5.40 - 'The art of bullshit; life in the eyes of a teenage hacker' -  Solomon Gilbert, CEO and Head of Security Division at Ferox Security Ltd

Currently the CEO of Ferox Security, I am a young, talented entrepreneur and security engineer. After my expulsion from my school two years ago, I decided to start my own company and have been growing my skills in the security industry through the medium of the company ever since. Soon to be taking the CREST and CISSP exams, at 18 years old I would become the youngest CISSP certified professional and the youngest CREST certified professional in the UK, should I pass.

Along with a co-ordinating and performing penetration tests, I work within various other industries to prevent young people from becoming involved in Cyber Crime and gain careers in Cyber Security instead. Most recently I have been partaking in training like-minded youngsters as part of the Cyber First scheme.

I attribute my successes in the information security field partly to my Aspergers syndrome, which provides me with a unique analytical perspective on the puzzles a security engineer would need to solve. I have also been motivated to provide support to other children and young people with Aspergers and Autism Spectrum Disorders, developing their potential in the industry and preventing them from taking routes into Cyber Crime.
