Ready to start a career in tech but not sure where to begin?

The NextGen Tech Bootcamp is a free, full-time 10-week programme designed to help you build real-world IT skills, earn a CompTIA A+ certification, and connect directly with local employers hiring in IT support and cybersecurity.

Whether you're looking for your first job, changing careers, or returning to work, this is your chance to get ahead in a growing, well-paid industry in Wales.

You’ll learn hands-on technical skills, build confidence, meet industry experts, mentors, and leave ready for employment or an apprenticeship. A bonus, you’ll get paid £150 per week while you train.

Entry Requirements

  • 19 years old and over
  • Unemployed, under-employed or working part-time
  • A keen interest in IT and IT career prospects
  • Cannot complete an intensive programme without intervention and support; for e.g. weekly training allowance for full-time intensive programmes (£150 per week) and access to barriers funding to support transport and childcare costs
  • Seeking to upskill / reskill to enter a priority sector with known skills gaps or shortages


Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+ Certified
  • Networking Principles unit by Agored Cymru
  • Professional Practise in an IT Context by Agored Cymru


Facilities
This will be delivered in-person. You will require access to a laptop.

Who is this for?

This programme is for adults aged 19 or over who are unemployed, under-employed, or working p/t, and looking for a way to start a new career in tech. We especially want to support people who might not usually have access to training like this – whether that’s due to cost, location, or circumstances.

What will I learn?

Learn how to build, troubleshoot, and maintain computers Study for and take the CompTIA A+ exam (a recognised IT qualification) Understand basic networking and cybersecurity principles Build your confidence with CVs, job interviews, and employer sessions Get ready for entry-level roles, apprenticesh

Do I need any experience in tech?

Nope! You don’t need to have studied IT before or worked in tech. If you’re curious, willing to learn, and can commit to the full programme, we’ll support you every step of the way. Ideally, you will have a passion for IT and a willingness to learn more.

Where is it based?

The bootcamp will run at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach Campus in South Wales. It’s in-person, Monday to Friday, full-time for 10 weeks. One day per week may be remote to work on your projects.

Will I get paid?

Yes – you’ll receive a £150 weekly training allowance while you're on the course, to help cover your time. We also have support available for things like transport or childcare if needed.

When does it start?

The bootcamp starts on Monday 2nd June 2025 and runs for 10 weeks. Applications close on Monday 12th May, or sooner if places fill up.

What happens after the course?

You’ll leave with a recognised qualification, real-world skills, and support to apply for jobs, apprenticeships, or further training. We’ll also connect you with local employers during the course.
