Event description
NHS Forth Valley Diabetes Team education workshop on how to manage Type 1 diabetes before, during and after different types of exercise.

About this Event

Do you have Type 1 diabetes and attend a clinic in Forth Valley? Do you struggle to control your blood glucose when you exercise? Do you avoid exercising because you lack confidence in how to control your blood glucose? Or would you just like to find out more?

This 5 hour session aims to provide you with the knowledge and confidence you require to embark on any form of exercise from playing football with your grandchildren to running a marathon; whatever your goal we are here to help.

The first part of the day is a teaching session on the effect that different types of exercise would be expected to have on your blood glucose and how to manage that with insulin and carbohydrate, we include tips for avoiding highs and lows, how to stay hydrated and how to refuel for your next session.

After eating lunch you will then participate in an active session on a 'spin' bike. This is led by a qualified spin instructor. We stop every ten minutes to check blood glucose and after the class we then chat through the effect that the class has had on your blood glucose and how you can apply this to your own exercise sessions - whatever they may be!

The day is great fun, you don't need to be an expert on the spin bike, come along, do what you can do and learn in a safe , supportive environment.
