Event description

Description

National and local research highlights that patients value their NHS Health Check and some make lifestyle changes as result. However some patients report not fully understanding their CVD risk or how to reduce their risk following their check. Local NHS Health Check practitioners have also identified communicating CVD risk as an area they would like more training, information and support on.

One You East Sussex and Public Health East Sussex have developed a free half day training session to support NHS Health Check practitioners to improve their CVD risk communication skills and maximise patient outcomes following their check.

Aim: To improve NHS Health Checks practitioners confidence and understanding of communicating CVD risk

Objectives:

  • To refresh existing knowledge and understanding of CVD risk communication and improve understanding of how risk is currently communicated.

  • An overview of QRISK2 and communicating CVD risk to patients including using the heart age function.

  • To explore the barriers to effective risk communication and ways to promote lifestyle change

This training session draws on NICE guidance and research from the University of Staffordshire on communicating CVD risk within NHS Health Checks. This training is for staff that have already attended NHS Health Checks training.

Attendance is required only once

For further information please contact Fergal McAleer NHS Health Checks Coordintor at One You East Sussex.
