Event description

Description

In this NICEC seminar we will be joined by a panel sharing their experience of creating and using digital tools to support careers work in higher education and graduate contexts.

Liz Wilkinson is a Senior Careers Consultant with The Careers Group and has been developing an ipsatively assessed online employability module for the University of London, with a strong guidance element built into the structure and scaffolding of the micro-module. She will talk about this project, digital guidance and how it may develop in the future. Liz is an award-winning developer of new methodologies on the digital frontiers of employability.

Neil Courtis is the CEO of Sensible Media Ltd, an e-learning company focused on careers. Sensible Media produces e-learning courses and live webinars for the alumni and students of more than 30 European business schools and universities. Neil will speak about creating engaging careers content for business school students and alumni. Sensible Media has produced more than 200 live webinars, e-learning courses and careers-related films for business schools and universities throughout Europe. Neil will discuss some of the lessons they have learned from testing and refining different types of content (in particular regarding format, engagement and student feedback).

Daniel Mitchell works as a careers consultant for the University of Reading, leading on their Finalist engagement initiative and supporting students from the School of Literature and Languages. He has worked in careers for just over four years and received the AGCAS Award for Outstanding Newcomer in 2017. Reading, in collaboration with the Henley Business School, has just created its very first online careers course. The course aims to support students graduating in 2020 with their transition into the world of work, whilst providing careers support at scale. As well as planning and writing content, the course educators were filmed and recorded and produced a suite of webinars, podcasts and screencasts to sit alongside the course. Daniel will share details of the project, the response from students and academics and how the educators developed their digital skills along the way.

Our session will be chaired by NICEC Fellow, Michael Larbalestier. His background is in innovation and product development, digital learning and guidance within an education-based social enterprise.
