Nicer Tuesdays 2016 concludes with a stellar lineup that includes one of the UK’s most celebrated graphic designers, the creative duo behind She Said and Visual Noise, the publisher of the new edition of the British Rail Corporate Identity Manual and the photographer who has spent ten years exploring the female gaze. Jonathan Barnbrook is one of the most well-known and revered graphic designers and typographers of the past three decades. One of his most recent design works, and undoubtedly most poignant, was creating the visual identity for David Bowie’s 2016 album ★ released earlier this year.
Putting the female gaze to the test by adding a liberal dose of nudity comes Maisie Willoughby, a London-based photographer and creative producer at ad agency Wieden + Kennedy. Maisie has spent the last ten years photographing women “in various states of undress”. The resulting project, Girl on Girl, was launched last month in London and Maisie will be telling us more about this project.
Photographer Jess Bonham and set designer Anna Lomax have explored subjects ranging from onomatopoeia to titillation and innuendo on projects together. The creative duo behind She Said and Visual Noise will be joining us to explain how their frequent collaborations come about and the inspiration behind their thoughtful, sensual projects.
The British Rail Corporate Identity Manual has been reproduced and published by London-based graphic designer Wallace Henning. Funded via Kickstarter, the book showcases the national rail service’s entire 1965 graphic identity by Design Research Unit including its enduring “double arrow” logo by Gerry Barney. Wallace will be talking about the painstaking process behind this much-anticipated project.
