Event Details

Verso @ Carroll / Fletcher: Networked Culture, Digital Politics

Where did the future go? For much of the twentieth century the idea of the future held sway over our dreams, and nowhere more so than in the artworld. Modernism and the Avant-Garde in art reflected our concerns with future-orientated practice. Yet, since the neoliberal revolution of Reagan and Thatcher, any concept of a different future has been trampled under foot by rampant financial speculation. How can we re-imagine our relation to technology, labour and the future once more?

To celebrate the publication of Inventing the Future: Postcapitalism and a World Without Work (Verso, 2015), join Nick Srnicek and Alex Williams (authors of ‘Manifesto for an Accelerationist Politics’) to explore the question of labour and art’s relation to the future.

This event is part of a season-long collaboration between Carroll/Fletcher and Verso Books.
