Artist Nicky Bird is developing a residency working with some of ‘The Decorators’ who worked in Portobello’s Buchan potteries in the late 1960s. By paying attention to voice, image and pattern on pottery, including the decorator’s own maker marks, the residency will produce a series of events and site specific related artworks that tease out the stories of the decorators.

Introductory Walk & Visit inside pottery kiln
Meet at pottery kiln Bridge St, Portobello EH15

The project wll culminate in a kiln opening weekend (Sat 29th Feb & Sun 1st March) with oral recordings & site-specific photographic work exhibited in and around the area of Portobello’s pottery industry, along with talks & events.

Nicky’s residency forms part of the ‘LandMark: Working Land’ series of works being produced during 2019/20 by Art Walk Projects. Her project is created in partnership with Portobello Heritage Trust, with funding by Creative Scotland, The Robertson Trust, and The City of Edinburgh Council.
