Nicosia: Europe’s Divided City

A hybrid conference taking palce at London Metropolitan University and online via Teams

The Cyprus Centre of London Metropolitan University is pleased to announce our forthcoming conference focusing on Nicosia, Europe’s last divided capital city. This conference aims to highlight positive action taken to aid reconciliation and understanding rather than dwell on the background to this division.

In 2003 the Cyprus Centre organised a conference exploring Nicosia – the divided capital. Now almost a quarter of a century later we are revisiting the theme. Many initiatives have sprung up in the intervening period with the youth seen as particularly significant in bridging the gap and lessening the differences between communities. Reconciliation becomes a key word. Projects by manifold parties and organisations all have a common aim of promoting harmony. We will explore a number of these initiatives and look to understand additional measures affecting the fabric of the city.

The speakers presenting have diverse backgrounds, culturally, ethnically and professionally but all with the common aim of seeking peace and promoting harmony. Presentations come from academics from Oxford, NKUA, Queen’s University, Belfast as well as representatives from groups such as Orientaction, Homes for Cooperation, the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research, CyprusInno. and Gardens of the Future.

A full programme will be shared with registered attendees in due course.

This is a hybrid conference taking place in person, in T8-20, Tower Building (8th floor), Blue Zone, London Met's Holloway Road campus, and online via Teams.

The link to join online will be sent to all registered attendees.

This event is free of charge but we ask that all attendees register so a place can be allocated.
