Nigel Warburton and Stephen Law: Philosophy in Schools
Sat 4 March 2017, 11:00 – 12:00 GMT
Blackwell's is delighted to present our free monthly philosophy event, Philosophy in the Bookshop. Nigel Warburton will be discussing the importance of philosophy in schools and The War for Children's Minds with Stephen Law, reader in philosophy at Heythrop College University of London.
Should philosophy be more widely taught in schools? Law argues that we should re-evaluate the way we educate children, and put a focus on learning morality and right from wrong in a way grounded in the Enlightenment, rather than through authoritarian rhetoric. The War for Children's Minds is a candid and controversial call for educating children in a philosophical and liberal way.
Nigel Warburton is a freelance philosopher, author of The Little History of Philosophy and Philosophy Bites, and the co-producer of the podcast Philosophy Bites which has had over 25 million downloads.
This event is free to attend and all are welcome.
