Description

In the run-up to the 2019 Nigerian General Election APC Youth UK brings to you the ‘Nigerian Youth in Politics: An Intro’ event on 5th May; an afternoon of education and insight from a panel of illustrious members ranging from bloggers, businessmen and politicians. It’s said that if one doesn’t know where they ‘came from’ they don't know where they are headed. This event dedicates its scope to the history of Nigeria and how our country came to be how it is. We shall also tackle the biggest social and economic issues facing us to provide a holistic view of Nigeria in the past and as it is today.

Nigeria finds itself at a critical junction. At a time when Africa draws closer together and the world begins to see the global South with increasing importance the opportunity to establish ourselves in the world are more palpable than ever. Simultaneously the political culture in Nigeria is beginning to shift, as demonstrated by the success of the #NotTooYoungToRun campaign. Out of Nigeria’s population of 186 million 50 percent are under the age of 30. It becomes increasingly important that the voices of young people are heard.

Nigeria’s issues are well-publicised but even the establishment has recognised that young people will be be vital to pushing our country forward and so now, more than ever, the opportunity to make a change has presented itself and APC Youth UK hopes to equip and empower those of us who want to make a difference.

This event, with the help of the University of East London, APC Youth UK hopes to bring together young Nigerians in a place where they can network, inspire and learn from each other. A place where we can foster healthy and constructive debate to determine the best direction for our country. And how exactly we in the diaspora can help.

We all have a shared vision: to see a prosperous Nigeria that can provide for all its people. We long for the day when having to leave Nigeria to prosper is no longer commonplace. Join us on the
5th May because quite simply change starts with us!
