Welcome to the NIHR Economics Group Launch!
Economics has become firmly embedded within the activities of the NIHR. Economics is one of the methodologies supported by the NIHR’s capacity-building activities and economists are now expected to be involved in most infrastructure, programme and project funding.
The NIHR Economics Group will be an umbrella group aiming to join-up economics input and activity across NIHR programmes. It will cover the broad focus of economic research in health and care, being both policy-facing as well as practice-facing.
The Group will:
- create and support peer-to-peer networks and working/interest groups
- identify future opportunities for providing advice and training, promoting consistency across studies, maintaining standards and progressing methodology
- signpost towards areas of expertise
- identify and spread good practice and raise consistency in economics across NIHR
- act as a professional voice for economists into NIHR, for example in consultations
- highlight the positive role of NIHR in promoting economics in applied health and care research and provide support to other national and international funders to emulate this positive role.
