Event description

Description

Often our approach to prevention is to ensure that young people are aware of the potentially devastating legal and consequences of risk behaviours like carrying a knife and supporting their resilience to the various influences and pressures that might lead to risky decisions. While this approach is important to prevention work, it has become increasingly apparent that working more universally with young people to empower them to challenge perceived norms around violence and knife carrying and to act if they know that someone else is carrying a knife, is a powerful approach to prevention.

Developed and delivered by No Knives, Better Lives and the Violence Reduction Unit, this training is an introduction to the bystander approach to prevention and to new material developed to support this work with young people. You may be aware of the bystander approach through the school based Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) programme, but it’s an approach that has broad applicability and will be of interest to many practitioners who work directly with young people and who have any kind of prevention/capacity building role.

This training is not part of the formal Mentors in Violence Prevention programme
