Energy Conversation 2: No more petrol and diesel powered cars by 2032. Credible scenario or green fantasy? (chaired by Alf Young)

Registration and welcome refreshments from 5:30pm. This event will be followed by a drinks reception.

The Scottish Government has declared its intention to effectively implement the UK ban on new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2032 through a series of complementary actions. A shift towards low carbon vehicles will undoubtedly bring important benefits on health and well-being to the Scottish people.

However, the feasibility of this ban has been met with scepticism, partly due to the many uncertainties on technology, infrastructure and delivery policies. This is the focus of our next CEP Energy Conversation.

Invited conversationalists include: Robert Forrest, Green Power International (CEO); Matthew Eastwood, Energy Saving Trust (Head of Transport, Scotland); George Hazel, George Hazel Consultancy (Director).

Join the conversation as we discuss:

  • Which types of low emissions vehicles may replace the existing fleet?
  • Which complementary policies/programmes would be needed to achieve this target?
  • Is 15 years a long enough time frame to design and implement an effective range of policies?
  • Are other public and policy concerns around congestion, road safety and the affordability of transportation and mobility services being given sufficient attention?
