Join us for a workshop at GCU on No Recourse to Public Funds in Scotland: An advocacy approach supporting destitute families with insecure immigration status:

  • Date: Thursday 13th July 2017
  • Time: 10am - 1pm
  • Location: CEE1, Centre for Executive Education

What is the content of the workshop?

This workshop will address recommendations from Scottish Parliament’s newly published Equalities and Human Rights Committee (EHRiC) report "Hidden Lives - New Beginnings: Destitution, asylum and insecure immigration status in Scotland". Specifically, advocacy for destitute families who have insecure immigration status and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF). This will include;

1/ Advocacy for destitute NRPF families in Scotland with insecure immigration status.

2/ Support service users access local authority support.

3/ Improve understanding of the rights of NRPF families within the legal framework.

4/ Identify risks and barriers accessing local authority support under Section 22 .

5/ Raising awareness of rights and entitlements for NRPF families

There will be a break for refreshments during the workshop.

Who are the workshop facilitators?

The workshop will be co-delivered by PhD Social Work Researcher, Natalia Farmer and Women Asylum Seeker Housing Project (WASH) and Jennifer Ang of Just Right Scotland https://www.facebook.com/justrightscot/ who will give a legal briefing on Section 22 duties of local authorities to NPRF families.

Who should attend?

We would welcome anyone working with or supporting those with insecure immigration status, such as refugees, asylum seekers and those with no recourse to public funds.

Parking: although no general parking is available on campus, The Concert Square car park is directly opposite the University next to Buchanan Bus Station on Cowcaddens Road.
