This tragic tale of poverty and desperation is a traditional dance drama about the plight of those in rural Bangladesh whose livelihoods depend on the success of their crops, coupled with an exposé of childhood marriage. Nobitun is a 14 year old orphan who lives with her poor grandmother and is wed to a young tenant farmer, Nishan. Set in the lowland area of Sunamgonj District, the paddy fields are threatened by floodwater from the embankment being breached. Nisha notices the water rising, and frantic to save his fields, and earn enough from the yield to buy his young bride the jewellery she so desires, tries his upmost to stop the flood, and and sacrificing his life in the struggle.
