#nofilter: Helen Mort & Claire Carter
Tue 16 May 2017, 19:00 – 21:00 BST
Readings and conversation from enthusiasts for the outdoors and writers Claire Carter and Helen Mort hosted by Professor Joanna Gavins from the School of English. Both Helen and Claire mine mountain landscapes for material, and here they share their perspective on the filters that writing and social media place on our experiences of the natural world.
Claire is a writer and film maker. Her first film (with Jen Randell) Operation Moffatt, about Britain's first female climbing guide, won best film at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival in 2015. Helen is an award-winning poet whose latest collection No Map Could Show Them explores narratives of women pioneers, both Victorian and modern. Joanna is Professor of English Literature and Language at the University of Sheffield whose research seeks to understand the human experience of literary reading.
