Non-Executive Directors: the benefits to you and your organisation

Taking place at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School on Monday 24th October, the evening will provide insight from both the perspective of the non-executive and the board. The panel line-up will consist of a number of Manchester-based non-executive directors, with first- hand experience of the impact being a NED has had on their career trajectory and the input that they have been able to give to the boards they serve.
You will have a chance to put any questions to our expert panel and take part in networking opportunities before and after the panel discussion. The evening event will also be accompanied by refreshments and canapés.
Yvonne Harrison - Chief Executive at GreaterSport, a leading Greater Manchester Charity - Changing Lives through Sport and physical Activity and striving to get one million people moving by 2017. Announced winner of the Public and Third Sector Director of the Year by the North West Institute of Directors 2016, Yvonne is an experienced leader with a track record of delivering positive impact through a high performing team. Providing leadership across Greater Manchester to position Physical Activity and Sport as a key contributor to economic growth and population health improvement, Yvonne recently delivered the countries first Memorandum of Understanding between Sport England, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the NHS in Greater Manchester.
John Barnes - Non-Executive Director, Business Advisor, coach & mentor. John has over 25 years’ experience at board level in both Private limited and PLC organisations. He is one of only a thousand UK based Directors who hold Chartered status with the Institute of Directors. (A prestigious award based on experience, integrity, examination and professional competence). Since 2010 John has had his own Business Consultancy and currently sits on two boards as a Non-Executive Director along with serving the wider business community as a business coach and mentor. John is a commercially focused Independent Chartered Business Director who thrives on driving performance improvement, defining corporate direction and transforming organisations using strong strategic planning, financial control and team leadership skills.
Clive Memmott - Clive took up his appointment as Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce in September 2010. Prior to this, he was a Director of Robinson Keane, the executive recruitment consultancy and held a number of non-executive directorships. He is the Director of the British Chambers of Commerce, Brockholes Enterprises Ltd (the award winning nature reserve), Business Finance Solutions, a Trustee of the National Football Museum and an adviser to the Board of the Manchester Growth Company. Clive also has a number of other advisory and non-executive positions and is a regular speaker and writer on a wide range of business issues.
Ruth Thomas - Ruth has held non-executive roles in the fashion and sportswear industry as well as for a Community Interest Group. Ruth has started her career in financial services; designing, developing and delivering management development courses. She subsequently managed several bars and restaurants before starting her own retail business. Ruth took her own business from a market stall to a turnover of 6M+ in 5 years. She is an expert in customer service, hospitality, social media and staff development. Ruth works as part of the Ruby Star Associates team offering independent, evidence-based growth services to the boards of small and medium organisations across the UK.
