Event description

Nordic Walking is a great way to keep fit and work out the core muscles in the body. It is easy to incorporate into day to day life.

Join me for a workshop in Comrie for beginners. By the end of the workshop you will have learnt the basics of Nordic Working. Poles are supplied. NB Half the income from this workshop will go support the Shaky Toun Team fund raising for Parkinson's - find out more here.

So what is Nordic walking?

It is fitness walking using specially designed walking poles.

  • Nordic walking exercises the whole body using around 90% of the muscles in the body.

  • The upper body gets a workout with the big muscles around the shoulders and neck being worked properly as well as the arms.

  • Tension in these muscles is released and the spine is strengthened – this can help to ease back pain.

As well as improving your endurance, strengthening and toning the muscles in the upper body, arms and legs, and releasing muscle tension in the neck and shoulders, Nordic walking also provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. You get your heart beating somewhere between 5-17 times more per minute than normal walking.

Tutoring by Fran Loots who is an International Nordic Walking Association qualified instructor (INWA) and Level 2 fitness instructor

How fit do I need to be?

If you are comfortable walking about a mile in 20 minutes then you are fit enough for this workshop.

Please complete the form about your health and let me know if you have any joint issues as this may not be suitable for all conditions.

What do I need to bring?

All you need to take part are a pair of trainers or walking shoes (preferably not boots as they are often too high and rigid)

Lightweight fleece gloves or padded cycling gloves

If it is forecast for rain then a waterproof jacket and trousers are a good idea.

Hat and fleece if it is cold

You may want to bring a drink and snack too.

Poles are supplied as part of the course fee.

Where do we meet?

We will meet 10 am at the car park at School Road in Comrie - beside the Primary School.

The workshop lasts 3 hours.
