Join us for training to become a Reading Buddy in your local community
About this event
The Reading Buddies scheme is being piloted in Norfolk by the National Literacy Trust in partnership with Norwich Community Foundation and Norfolk Reading Project . The vision for Reading Buddies is to offer a way for communities to work together to ensure that every child in Norfolk enjoys reading and can read well.
This session of training wil equip you with the knowledge and understanding to support reading in a local school this summer term, once a week for 6-8 weeks. This could involve providing one-to-one support for children struggling with reading by sharing books, talking about stories and listening to the children read. You will also get the chance to meet the team running the project and ask any questions
The training is run by two members of the National Literacy Trust team: Emma Morton, who oversees the Literacy Champions and Reading Buddies programmes ; and Liz Dyer, Programme Manager for our local Hubs and former primary teacher.
No previous experience is required to become a Reading Buddy; it is just about volunteers who are passionate about making a difference to literacy levels in their local area.
Following the training session we will proceed with matching you up to a local school and processing DBS certificates.
