Description

This North American Breeders Meeting, hosted by CIOPORA, will be the first of its kind to gather breeders of vegetatively propagated ornamentals and fruits from the US, Canada and Mexico to discuss, specifically, the challenges related to intellectual property protection faced by breeders in North America.

The North American Breeders Meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 25, from 10:30-13:00 at the Radisson Admiral Hotel in Toronto on the fringes of CIOPORA's Annual General Meeting (AGM). Topics for this meeting will include:

  • Article 102b of the US Patent Act: Novelty and loss of right to Patent

    • Experience after more than 10 years of policy change

  • The EDV Concept:

    • How to bring mutants and GMO under the protection of the Initial Variety

  • How can CIOPORA help to better understand the advantages and limitations of the US Plant Patent vs. Plant Variety Rights

  • The Asexual Reproduction of Seed Crops

All breeders of fruits and ornamentals with headquarters in North America are invited to attend this meeting. For questions of more information, contact CIOPORA at info@ciopora.org
