Description

Some of Somerset’s top cricket stars will be coming to Instow on Saturday 30th September, when they will be joining players from three local businesses to battle it out for the North Devon Shield.

Chichester Developments, BJ’s Value House & Travel Chapter are taking part in the event which will be raising funds for local charity Children’s Hospice South West and Somerset cricketer James Hildreth’s Testimonial year.

The cricket will be played on a round robin basis in a novel 10/10 format, culminating in the top two teams playing off in a final and a special demonstration match between the third place team and the North Devon Tarka Ladies.

To book a ticket for a seat in the marquee for the day, with an evening Curry Meal and Q&A session or a coaching session with the professionals, please call Frank Biederman on 07595-988704 or via book now button below.

Chichester Developments will be captained by Somerset & North Devon’s Craig Overton and also include Somerset star Max Waller in their side. Travel Chapter will be captained by Craig’s twin brother Jamie Overton, also of Somerset & North Devon fame. In addition they will have Somerset’s Peter Trego playing for them. Completing the line-up are BJ's All Stars, who will be captained by James Hildreth playing alongside former Australia opening batsman Chris Rogers and Somerset’s Director of Cricket Matt Maynard.

The first match will get under way at 11.00am, with the final will taking place at around 4.30pm. Entry to the ground will be free and there will be a bar, BBQ and teas available for spectators. Also on offer are coaching sessions in the nets with our star players at a cost of £10 for an hour, with a maximum of six people per net. Tables may also be booked in our pitch side marquee for the days cricket, plus a curry evening meal and Q&A session with the stars at just £15:00 per person.

Event organiser Frank Biederman said "This promises to be a competitive and exciting days cricket, as well as raising money for two good causes. I am obviously excited to see Buck (Chris Rogers) step on to the Instow pitch again. We are all so proud of what he has achieved in the game since his time with us at North Devon in the late 90's.

Chris Rogers said "I am looking forward to playing in this tournament and catching up with old friends. I have so many happy memories of my time in North Devon. It is a ground that still is special to me. I hope the day raises lots of money for my old club and the two causes involved.

Emma Perry, Senior Community Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) said: “We are thrilled that James Hildreth selected CHSW as the chosen charity for his Testimonial Year. Support from the community is vital to help us to continue our work with local children with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families. It’s a great privilege to be involved with this special event and we wish everyone involved a great day’s cricket”
