Description

This is an open and free afternoon discussion and seminar event for anyone with an interest in the field.

The aim of the group is to: increase awareness of the range of freshwater ecology work being undertaken in the region, provide opportunities for discussion among a spectrum of practitioners and act as an impetus for future knowledge exchange and collaboration between different parties. Talks include the following, and plenty of time will be allowed for discussion of related issues.

• Dr Stephanie Peay, CEcol MCIEEM, Associate Director, AECOM. Invasive Crayfish, what risks, what options?

• Lawrence Eagle, University of Leeds. The impact of signal crayfish on freshwater stream communities in the Yorkshire Dales

• Professor Jonathan Grey, Lancaster University and Professor in Practice with the Wild Trout Trust. Angels and demons, and killers too: invasive shrimp interactions

• Caitriona Shannon, Researcher in Biosecurity for Invasive Non-Native Species, University of Leeds. Slowing the spread of invasive non-native species: biosecurity best practice and stakeholder engagement

• Ailsa Henderson, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The role of citizen science and community engagement in surveying and managing INNS

Dr Phil Metcalfe, Principle Consultant, Ecus Ltd, Site Condition Monitoring of Loch's in the Scottish Western Isles.
