A bit more about Death Cafes.

A Death Cafe is a safe, confidential and friendly space for people to come together and talk openly and honestly about death, dying, and making the most of our finite lives. Small groups sit around a table and conversation flows without agenda or direction. The conversation is led by the people in the group, and therefore, each session is unique.

Tea, coffee, and cake will be available to buy!

It's important to note that Death Cafe is not a bereavement/grief support resource and we advise that you do not attend if you have been very recently bereaved and your grief feels very raw.

Why do people attend a Death Cafe?

People attend for all sorts of reasons. It might be that an illness or getting older makes death feel more present and they feel a need to talk or explore it further.

Some people come because they want to find out how to broach the subject of death and dying with someone close to them, like parents or grandparents. Or it might be a fear of death or dying that prompts someone to attend. For some people, it is just a desire to be more open or a curiosity about the subject.

You can attend once or attend regularly. You are free to choose how it works for you.

Everyone is welcome. Do come and join us!

A little bit about your hosts.

Debbie Young has been working in the field of death, dying and end of life care planning since 2011 and is an experienced Death Cafe host and facilitator. Debbie also provides training, facilitated workshops and consultancy. https://debbieyoung.uk/

Jon started attending Death Cafes in early 2020 as he had a need to gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of death. He is now a table host, and finds it a privilege to speak and listen to a wide range of people with differing experiences, feelings and approaches towards death. He particularly enjoys that every meeting throws up new and invigorating conversations along with keen insight and, perhaps surprisingly, great humour.

Big thanks to Abby at East of Eden for offering a space that is calm, friendly and confidential allowing attendees to talk openly about death and dying and feel safe.
