Rotary North East Technology Tournament
2019
Ready! Set! Create!
The Tournament will increase STEM skills and give teams a chance of career enhancing involvement with major companies. Plus, possible ongoing opportunities. It is designed to complement the National Curriculum, having fun while developing skills in: Designing and building a functioning technology project; Working together to solve technical problems; and Increasing social skills by team building and communication.
Here’s how it works;
The Tournament will comprise teams from 24 schools.
School teams can be entered at 3 levels - Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.
- Each team will consist of 4 students.
- Each school team will work towards achieving a technical goal of creating a working electro mechanical device from a kit of parts supplied by Rotary on the day of the competition.
- The teams will be judged on teamwork, problem solving abilities, communication skills, risk taking and creativity during the project build and finally on the functionality of the completed project.
- Each team must produce a written design and construction portfolio to show clearly how they arrived at their finished model.
- The winning team in each category will receive a trophy that can be displayed in their schools. Each student will receive a personalised achievement certificate.
Team members will also be given opportunity for further career support from Rotary and event sponsors.
After the event Rotary will offer help with mentoring, mock interviews and other activities, if schools request it.
