Description

Video Interaction Guidance

Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) is an evidence-based, strengths focused intervention aimed at working with parents or carers to improve relationships within the family. VIG records and utilises video clips of parent/carer-child interaction to support a move towards more attuned patterns of interaction. Based upon the growing evidence base for VIG across a range of clients including mothers (Kennedy, Landor and Todd, 2010), fathers (Magill-Evans, 2007), prospective adopters (Feltham-King, 2010), families with domestic violence, mental health, substance misuse (Doria, Strathie, & Strathie, 2011), those at risk of neglect (Whalley and Williams, 2015), and parents who have been reported for maltreating their children (Moss et al, 2011), Cornwall Council set up a VIG Service in 2014. The service aimed to provide a therapeutic intervention for families where parental sensitivity to their children, attachment difficulties and lack of reflective capacity has been identified through a range of observations or assessments. The VIG Service was designed to be an early intervention service as it was envisaged that this was the stage where the most impact could be achieved.

This workshop will present findings from the Cornwall Council VIG Service Evaluation before offering a practical demonstration of the VIG technique from the Manager of Cornwall’s VIG Service and inviting discussion about VIG in general and the dedicated VIG service.

Mae Canllawiau Rhyngweithio trwy Fideo (VIG) yn ymyriad sy'n seiliedig ar dystiolaeth ac yn canolbwyntio ar gryfderau sy’n ceisio gweithio gyda rhieni neu ofalwyr i wella perthnasedd o fewn y teulu. Mae VIG yn recordio ac yn defnyddio clipiau fideo o rieni/gofalwyr a phlant yn rhyngweithio i gefnogi'r broses o symud tuag at batrymau mwy cydweddus o ryngweithio. Fe sefydlodd Cyngor Cernyw wasanaeth VIG yn 2014 ar sail y dystiolaeth gynyddol ar gyfer VIG ar draws amrywiaeth o gleientiaid gan gynnwys mamau (Kennedy, Landor a Todd, 2010), tadau (Magill-Evans, 2007), darpar fabwysiadwyr (Feltham-Brenin, 2010), teuluoedd â phroblemau trais domestig, iechyd meddwl a chamddefnyddio sylweddau (Doria, Strathie, & Str[athie, 2011), y rhai sydd mewn perygl o esgeulustod (Whalley and Williams, 2015), a’r rhieni yr hysbyswyd amdanynt am gamarfer eu plant (Moss et al, 2011). Nod y gwasanaeth oedd darparu ymyriadau therapiwtig i deuluoedd lle nodwyd bod sensitifrwydd ar ran rhieni tuag at eu plant, anawsterau ymlyniad a diffyg capasiti myfyriol, drwy gyfrwng amrywiaeth o arsylwadau neu asesiadau. Cynlluniwyd y gwasanaeth VIG i fod yn wasanaeth ymyrraeth gynnar oherwydd rhagwelwyd mai hwn oedd y cam lle y gellir cael yr effaith fwyaf.

Bydd y gweithdy hwn yn cyflwyno canfyddiadau gwerthusiad o wasanaeth VIG Cyngor Cernyw, cyn cynnig arddangosiad ymarferol o dechneg VIG gan reolwr gwasanaeth VIG Cernyw, a bydd gwahoddiad i gael trafodaeth am VIG yn gyffredinol, a’r gwasanaeth VIG pwrpasol.
