In the spectacular North West Highlands of Scotland, you’ll find the biggest waterfalls, highest sea cliffs and most unusual and iconic mountains in Britain, along with beautiful lochs, white-sandy beaches and some of the oldest rocks in the world. Escape with us to this remote corner of Scotland and wander amongst the giants of the North West.
Jutting steeply out of the vast open landscape, each mountain here stands separate, unique and striking. From Ben More Coigach over Stac Pollaidh and Suilven to Quinag and Foinaven, these giants are all strange and wonderful in their own way - prized by photographers and hillwalkers alike! Take-in the jaw-dropping scenery as our guides show you the way through this unusal cnoc-and-loch landscape.
Our exact hill walking itinerary will depend on the weather/conditions but our goal is to hike to the summit of Suilven (20km/13 miles), as well as one other spectacular summit in the area (to suit weather window). We will visit the local white sand beach of Achmelvich for optional wild dip/coastal stroll!
We call this a 'retreat' because our emphasis will be on relaxation and enjoyment (not because there will be a spa or chocolates on your pillow!) We will be staying in basic accommodation at the Lochinver Bunkhouse, of which we have sole occupancy. The bunkhouse is a modern yet cosy hostel with attached eatery. This base is ideally located for exploring the surrounding mountains, lochs and white beaches, as well as being an easy walk from the village of Lochinver. We will be sharing the bunkhouse with another Girls on Hills group (a women's running group with a different itinerary).
Bring your headtorch with you! Lochinver has been granted the highest class of Dark Skies award, being a place where the Milky Way can sometimes be seen with the naked eye.
