AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF CPD EVENT
Aims/ Objectives- A whistlestop tour of the following in a condensed workshop-
1) To increase knowledge concerning the development of persistent physical symptoms (pain) and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), recognising how biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors intersect to shape individual experiences.
2) To gain an increased understanding of what persistent physical symptoms are and why they are important, acknowledging that presentations may vary across different genders, ages, ethnicities, neurotypes, and cultural backgrounds.
3) To be clear on the importance of validation with this client group, ensuring communication is culturally sensitive, inclusive, and grounded in respect for the client’s lived experience and identity.
4) To understand how trauma can have an impact, including the trauma associated with accessing healthcare or living with the condition- while being mindful of how systemic inequality, discrimination, or stigma (e.g., relating to gender, race, class, disability, or sexuality) may compound distress and influence recovery.
5) To apply a formulation framework in preparation for EMDR that accounts for the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, integrating an awareness of how individual differences and cultural context influence memory networks and meaning making.
6) To understand the practical applications of EMDR with this client group, including trauma-informed preparation, safety, and inclusivity when adapting techniques for diverse populations (e.g., neurodivergent clients, interpreters, or those with sensory sensitivities).
7) To recognise the importance of adherence to the EMDR protocol while applying clinical sensitivity, flexibility, and anti-oppressive practice to meet the needs of all clients.
8) Kate will use diverse and inclusive clinical examples to bring the workshop to life, illustrating the lived realities of clients from varied backgrounds and ensuring all voices and experiences are represented with respect and compassion.
