Event description

Description

Northern Animals is thrilled to announce its second day-long workshop, to be held in Leeds on Friday 13 October. Hosted at the Leeds Museum's Discovery Centre, 'Animals and Borders' will broadly explore the question of borders from an animal studies perspective.

The workshop will feature the following: a guided tour of the Discovery Centre’s collection of illegal and confiscated taxidermy; a knowledge exchange with New Wortley Community Centre's Men's Walking Group; and, in the evening, a public reading by South African author Henrietta Rose-Innes, whose latest novel Green Lion (2015) considers conservation, ecological anxieties, and bereavement. For the full programme and running order, please see below.

Northern Animals is particularly designed for MA and PhD students, but the workshop is open to all academics interested in animal studies.

Just like the previous Northern Animals workshop, we will also ensure that a limited number of small bursaries will be available to cover particpants' travel costs. This is offered on the basis of need and covers up to £15 per person. To apply, please write to d.e.okey@leeds.ac.uk.
