Event description
The Northern Baroque Orchestra's summer concert is a vibrant and dynamic collection of music from Vivaldi to contemporary composer Bayliss.

About this Event

Michael Dow conducts the Northern Baroque in this exciting summer concert. A regular conductor with the NBO who is welcomed back as Poppy Weatherall leads the orchestra.

The concert presents a UK premiere of the Satirico e Concerto Grosso by Colin Bayliss who will be present at the performance. A whimsical piece of modern day Baroque style music that is bound to surprise. Colin has over 170 compositions from his collection of acclaimed quartets to descriptive pieces inspired by works of art. Perhaps you will get an opportunity to speak to the composer himself in the interval. The orchestra is grateful to the Radcliffe Trust for its kind and generous support in making this highlight of the concert happen.

The programme has a broad range of music from various periods. It includes baroque period favourites such as Purcell's" Abdelazer Suite", of who many are familiar with the Rondeau movement. Or J.S. Bach's "Air on the G string", a popular piece with everyone and becoming famous to the public through television advertising.

For the followers of Baroque period music the programme includes Concerto Grosso no 10 by Geminiani after Corelli's violin sonatas. A lesser known but beautiful piece and rarely played.

Moving in to the Romantic period the orchestra plays Grieg's Holberg suite. A wonderfully energetic piece of five movements that is based on 18th century dance forms. No sitting back and relaxing with this piece!

The orchestra accompanies Poppy Weatherall who plays the principal solo of Vivaldi's exciting and high energy "Summer" from the Four Seasons. This piece is a favourite of many that has the senses tingling.

A truly eclectic and inspiring mix of music that will have you sitting back with dreamy harmonies to you hanging on to your hats. Enjoy the treat!
