Event description
Virtuoso of the Arts’ (The Times) Matthew Sharp teams up with the Northern Chamber Orchestra for this inspirational concert in Stockport.

About this Event

Mozart Overture, The Marriage of Figaro | Dvořák Cello Concerto no 2 op 104 (with Matthew Sharp, cello) | Haydn Symphony no 101 in D major ‘The Clock’ | Copland Saturday Night Waltz | Copland Hoedown

Cellist Matthew Sharp is internationally recognised as both a compelling classical artist and a fearless pioneer, and in this concert takes the lead in Antonín Dvořák's B Minor Cello Concerto.

The programme also includes the overture from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Haydn's Symphony no 101, subtitled 'The Clock', and the final two sections of Aaron Copland's Rodeo, Saturday Night Waltz and Hoedown. The Haydn and Copland pieces are part of this year's GCSE Music syllabus, so an ideal opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the music.

The Northern Chamber Orchestra is the North West's oldest professional chamber orchestra, and has worked with Matthew Sharp for several years as its Associate Artist. In the days leading up to the concert, Sharp will work with local schools on an education project based on the Dvořák concerto.
