Northern Clothing and Textile Network launch

Design Network North and David Reay are pleased to announce the launch of the Northern Clothing and Textile Network, and would be delighted if you were able to join us. You will hear inspiring stories from our guest speakers, learn from the experts in our workshop sessions, and help us shape the network into an effective, supportive community for clothing and textiles businesses across the North of England.
Speakers include -
Christian McGill, Design Manager, Berghaus
Berghaus are a great North East success story and have gone from humble beginnings in a Newcastle shop to being a world leading manufacturer of outdoor clothing and accessories. Christian will describe the design thinking and processes that go into making their products.
Bruce Montgomery, Professor in Design Craftsmanship, Northumbria University
'Building an International fashion brand’
Bruce will look at the contribution from the creative director and design team perspective with references to his working experience with Italian brands Soprani , Moschino and British luxury brand DAKS.
Bruce currently lectures on fashion sustainability, contemporary design craftsmanship and its influence on fashion design practice to postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
Harriet Skinner & Melissa Whipp, Creatures of XIX
Harriet and her partner Melissa recently launched a range of sportswear specfically designed for pole dancing, a sport that places surprising demands on the clothing as well as the wearer. They are particularly proud of their Gecko grip leggngs and all vegan shoes, and will describe their journey from ideas to great products.
Katie has created an astonishing range of silk garments and accessories, designed and manufactured solely in the UK. She will discuss her journey from graduate to designer and award-winning business owner.
Following these speakers and more besides, the afternoon will feature workshops covering -
- Web Design and e-commerce
- Applications of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality
- Social Media for Effective Sales and Marketing
- Raising Finance
These workshop will run twice in parallel to allow delegates to sign up for two.
There will also be lots of opportunities for networking and meeting new clients, suppliers, partners and to begin building your own network of useful contacts.
A little about us
David Reay has 35 years of experience in the clothing and textile industry, and has held senior posts with J Barbour & Sons, Jockey International and many other well-known international brands. David hails from the North East of England and is committed to furthering the renaissance of the clothing and textile industry in the North.
Design Network North, a project delivered by RTC North, was established in 2007 with the aim of increasing the contribution that design makes to the economy. They firmly believe that great design can improve any product, service or business. They support local businesses and their design projects in a variety of ways, through funding, workshops and one-to-one support.
