Event description

Description

Investing in education and skills in the North has never been more important.

The Northern Powerhouse Conference 2018 will bring together key players from across the North to collaborate and build consensus on how to bridge the productivity gap and deliver world-class education and job opportunities across the North.

The Northern Powerhouse Conference 2018 will launch the Northern Powerhouse Partnership’s Education and Skills Report and debate each stage of the education and skills journey from early years to active ageing:

  • Early years and schools: How can we improve life chances by investing in tomorrow’s workforce today?
  • 16-18 year olds; apprenticeships and further education: How can we develop the skills that the modern and northern world of work requires?
  • Adult Skills and higher education: How can we support and create new routes into education and employment for all?
  • Later life and skills retention: How can older workers maximize their skills and employability in a modern northern economy?

Invited Speakers include: Sir Michael Wilshaw, former Chief Inspector of Schools and Head of Ofsted; Lord Jim O’Neill, NPP Board Member and former Commercial Secretary at HMT; Cllr Judith Blake, Leader Leeds City Council, Sir Gerry Berragan, CEO of Institute for Apprenticeships, Rt Hon Caroline Flint MP, Co-Chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership All Party Parliamentary Group and Fiona Spellman, CEO, Shine.
