Description

All Northern Region UCU branches are requested to send one to two reps to September's regional briefing.

The regional briefing will be delivered by UCU Bargaining and Negotiations Official (Health, Safety and Sustainability), Adam Lincoln, focusing on using a health and safety approach to build branch capacity, campaign and negotiate to tackle excessive workloads.

The agenda includes:

Your rights as a health & safety rep

  • Right to be appointed
  • Right to time off
  • Why all UCU officers should also act as health & safety reps

Functions of the safety Rep

  • Investigations
  • Workplace inspections

Employer duties

  • General and specific duties
  • Consultation and information

Using a health and safety approach to build branch capacity, campaign and negotiate to tackle excessive workloads

Branch health checks, action plans and follow up.

FAQs

Is there a deadline for registration?
While there is no deadline, branches are asked to register by Wednesday 13th September. Due to the catering order process, we cannot gurantee the provision of lunch to those who register after 13th September.

What are the start and finish times?
Please arrive for a 12pm start. Lunch will be provided on arrival.
The briefing will finish by 4pm.

Will lunch be provided?
Yes. Lunch will consist of soup and a sandwich. If you have any special dietary requirements you must contact the organiser Emma Alexander ealexander@ucu.org.uk before Wednesday 13th September.

I have an access or dietary requirement. Who should I contact?
Contact Emma Alexander. For dietary requirements please also read the FAQ 'Will lunch be provided?'. Please note Emma Alexander is on leave 23rd August - 12th September inclusive. Any emails received during this time will be processed on 13th September.

Where can I find directions to the venue and information on car parking options?
The venue is 0.5miles from Newcastle Central Station. Directions to the venue and information on car parking is available on the venue's website

Can I claim for my travel to and from the briefing?
Yes. Expense claim forms will be distributed at the meeting. Please note: A maximum of two reps per branch can claim expenses.

After registering, should I let the organiser know if I am no longer able to attend the briefing?
Yes. By registering for this event, you are committing UCU to spend money in order to support your attendance. UCU wants as many members as possible to participate in its events, but in doing so, urges members to give their full commitment to attend. If, subsequent to your registration, unforseen circumstances force you to cancel your attendance, please contact the organiser, Emma Alexander as early as possible.

What do I do about time of work to attend?
This briefing is training for UCU reps. As a workplace representative you are entitled to reasonable paid time off to attend UCU training. If you experience any difficulties obtaining time off please contact the Regional Office.

Simply click on 'Register' then 'Checkout' button. This will take you to a new screen.

Under 'Your Information' enter your first name, surname and your email address.

Click on 'Complete Registration'

A confirmation screen will state 'You're going to Northern Region UCU Reps Briefing' and you will also receive a confirmation email from 'Eventbrite'.
