About this Event

Northernlands 2

Monday 6 July 2020 - 10:00 - 12:30 & 14:00 -16:30

Tuesday 7 July 2020 - 10:00 - 12:30 & 14:00 - 16:30

The first Northernlands event in 2019 was a spectacular success, bringing together speakers from across the UK and the Netherlands to share ideas and provoke electric conversation about health, security, ethics, data, culture, and more.

In Northernlands 2, we have the extra challenge of hosting a conference where no one is allowed within 2m of each other. So we're including that as part of our examination of data and innovation, looking at how we can deliver an event that packs the same punch as our 'in-person' events but is more accessible to the ways we are working and socialising now.

Taking everything online, we will use a mix of video and live discussion as we explore themes that cut across all aspects of data and innovation.

  • Open Data Saves Lives
  • Responsible data collaboration
  • Social interactions in a distanced world
  • Mobility in modern cities

Our first confirmed speakers include:

Ben Goldacre, author of Bad Science and Bad Pharma, and the spearhead for Open Prescribing.

Jeni Tennison, Vice President and Chief Strategy Advisor of the Open Data Institute.

Stian Westlake, co-author of Capitalism Without Capital, and newly appointed CEO of the Royal Statistical Society.

Stefania Milan, founder of Datactive the research project exploring the politics of big data.

Alwin Bakker, founder of the Future Mobility Network

Keep an eye on the Northernlands2 website for additional speakers, topics, and info about the schedule.
