Northumbrian Coastal Foray and Feast
As summer turns to autumn, we return to this stunning location for a very special day.
One of the best kept secrets on the Northumbrian coast, this unspoiled stretch of pristine white sand and blue sea is renowned for its wildlife, including seals and dolphins, a wide range of gourmet seaweeds, fossils and rock pools brimming with life!
We will gather in the morning, in plenty of time for the low tide, spending a leisurely couple of hours investigating the plants and creatures of the shore.
We will be joined for the day by the incredibly knowledgeable Ranger Jane, who runs award winning beach school and sea watch activities in the area! Jane knows this coast like the back of her hand and loves it as much as we do!
As the tide turns, we will retreat to the comfort of the dunes to enjoy one of our fabulous alfresco feasts … this is what we are known for… local, foraged and coastal-inspired food, all with our own unique spin!
Be prepared to dine on all manner of delectable wild inspired food, confections, ferments and preserves, discover the wonders of delectable seaweeds and drink wild champagne, sodas and teas!
There will be time to study the horizon for a glimpse of whales and dolphins, potter amongst the pools in search of shells and fossils, or go for a paddle or swim, so bring your dry robe and cossie!
Due to the isolated nature of this location, you will need your own transport, or a lift from Berwick can be arranged in advance.
Limited places are available so book early for this fabulous foodie foray! We will see you soon!
a chef and an avid foodie in charge, good eating is a big part of the day!
Between us we have many years of foraging experience, both members of the association of foragers and we hope to inspire you with some great recipe ideas as well as talking about the many health benefits.
No two days are the same, we can’t predict what we will find, so we will allow nature and the plants we come across to dictate the way the day unfolds!
Information for the day..
*Bring PLENTY of clothing options (layers) and shoe options…and have something in your car to change into in case you get wet! A towel or dryrobe is a good idea too, if you would like to swim at the end of the day!
*The weather can change quickly on this coast so you need to be ready for all eventualities.
*Waterproof jacket
*Wellies or walking boots… surf shoes (for the rock pools).
We will be getting out as far as possible to the low tide line in the hope of finding some of the less accessible seaweeds so it’s important to protect feet …We wear wellies/waterproofs, but if you’d prefer to wear swimming gear that’s great.
*Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated and possibly a hot drink
*Please bring a fork, spoon, bowl and a cup each for tasting samples
*A note book and pen is always useful, and don’t forget to charge your phone for all those pics!
*Hand gel/ wipes
*Hat/sunglasses/suncream/ insect repellent may be needed.
*Rucksack or basket for collecting.
*Scissors or knife for harvesting seaweed
We try to discourage the use of plastic bags… most supermarkets now sell reusable net bags in the veg section …we recommended these as they are more environmentally friendly, very cheap and fantastic for collecting wild plants.
PLEASE!!
🔴Let us know of any food allergies we should be aware of🔴
There are no public toilets during the day.
