Event description
Buckle up for a frantic evening’s entertainment celebrating the genius of punk icon Pete Shelley in his hometown of Leigh.

About this Event

On 23rd November 2019, the Pete Shelley Memorial Campaign presents an evening of nostalgia with one incredible person in mind. This live music event has been assembled by the Pete Shelley Memorial Campaign to run in conjunction with a major pop up exhibition celebrating the creativity of Pete Shelley at The Turnpike, an aspirational contemporary art space in Leigh town centre. This is a modern and fantastic venue and tickets will sell out quickly.

Three bands will perform their tributes to the legendary and iconic figure we know as Pete Shelley whilst at the same time raising funds for a permanent memorial of the man himself in his hometown of Leigh.

Same As It Ever Woz are a pop punk band with their roots in Salford; the members of this band have been around the local music scene for many years and have been influenced by Pete Shelley in their own writing and performances. They will perform an original set in tribute to Pete.

Ontick are a Liverpool based band with their roots beginning back in the Britpop era of the late 80s. The band members are all big fans of Pete and name him as a massive influence on their work. The band already have a couple of single releases to their name and have been wanting to play their tribute to Pete for some time now.

Buzzkocks need very little introduction, as the name says it all; this North-West based band have many shows under their belt now and perform as the only Buzzcocks tribute band around. As headliners they really will instil the nostalgia into this event as they play their way through an extensive collection of classics we all love. Buzzkocks didn't need asking twice to play at this event and jumped at the opportunity to play their tribute to Pete.

Ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn't’ve fallen in love with? Pete Shelley was born in Leigh on the 17th April 1955 and sadly passed away on the 6th December 2018. Join us in paying tribute to the great man in his hometown. Why not make a weekend of it? The exhibition will be open before the event from 5pm, and live music begins at 7pm.

There are lots of good eateries and pubs all nearby and this is guaranteed to be a fantastic weekend
