Event description

Description

Wednesday 2 August / 8pm / The Box / £4/3, booking required

The New Observatory curator Sam Skinner presents a screening of Nostalgia for the Light, the outstanding documentary from Chilean director Patricio Guzmán.

A moving exploration into the past, the film interweaves the harsh political history of Chile’s Atacama Desert with its present reputation as a renowned astronomy site. As astronomers examine the most distant and oldest galaxies, surviving relatives of those killed in the 1973 military coup search for the remains of their loved ones, to reclaim their families histories. Gradually the celestial quest of the astronomers and the earthly one of the Chilean women come together.
