Karl Christiansen was born in 1951 in Greenville, Michigan, where he worked as a librarian for several years before becoming, in 1980, a teacher at an international school in the suburbs of Athens. He later moved to France and then to Sunningdale in 1993. Sophie and Alex, the children of Karl and his British wife Caroline were born in the now defunct ‘old’ Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot.

When he retired in 2016, Karl decided to walk an ancient pilgrimage route, the Via Francigena, through England, France, Switzerland, and Italy before arriving in Greece. Along the way, Karl took stunning photos and reflected on the continent that is now his adopted home. Join him as he walks 2,000 miles and informs and entertains us with reflections on life through the landscapes of Europe and the writings of Geoffrey Chaucer, Homer, and Boethius.
