About this event

This course is designed for Media Server & Video Professionals. If you're a Motion Graphics or 3D Designer, we're running a different course on the same week, which is probably better suited to your needs.

This Notch training course introduces you to the creation of professional visual effects and real-time graphics. It prepares you to optimise Notch Blocks and work effectively with supported media servers. Over two days, you'll learn to navigate the Notch interface and master essential techniques in compositing, lighting, and dynamic scene control using modifier and logic systems. On Day 2, you'll expand your skills with advanced media server workflows and real-time effect optimisation. By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence to create stunning video effects and manage complex showfiles across a variety of production environment

Day 1 Summary

Day 1 builds your foundational skills in Notch, starting with an interface walkthrough, followed by key techniques in video compositing, visual effects creation, and lighting. You'll explore scene manipulation and learn how to build dynamic animations using modifiers instead of traditional keyframes and connect to external protocols such as OSC & MIDI.The day includes hands-on work with particle systems to create visually rich camera effects and concludes with practical knowledge of supported file formats and export options—from optimal video settings to exporting Blocks for media server integration.

Day 2 Summary

Day 2 focuses on advanced workflows for exporting and preparing Blocks for media servers. You’ll explore best practices for setting up a showfile, including structuring projects efficiently and exposing key parameters for live control. The session also covers various optimisation strategies to ensure your creative projects perform reliably in real-time environments. You’ll learn tools and techniques for working on location, such as Network Editing Blocks during rehearsals, and best practices for exposing parameters for integration with lighting desks and other show control systems.

Please come equipped with a PC laptop or desktop meeting Notch's minimum requirements.

At the end of the first day's training, we'll head to a local bar/pub for some drinks and nibbles.
