The ITI-London Regional Group is delighted to announce a very special event for interpreters: a two-day workshop on note-taking for consecutive interpreting led by Andy Gillies.
Over the last 20 years a variety of empirical studies have shown that a structured and deliberate note-taking technique can improve consecutive interpreting. In this practical workshop, participants will revisit some of the fundamental techniques in note-taking and practise their use – identifying ideas, positioning on the page, margins, symbols. They will also learn how structured and consistent notes can promote memorisation and recall as well as facilitate better presentation by the interpreter.
The workshop is aimed at professional interpreters who can, or have at some stage already been able to do consecutive but are now a little rusty or looking to improve. This is an intensive mini-course consisting of 8 x 90-minute sessions over two days, totalling six hours of training per day. The maximum number of participants is 16, and the LRG will offer tickets on a priority basis to LRG members from 1 November, and to non-LRG members from 7 November. We expect this event to sell out, so be sure to book early!
About the instructor:
In addition to working as an interpreter from French, German and Polish at the European Parliament, Andy Gillies is an interpreter trainer at ISIT in Paris. He curates two interpreter training websites – Interpreter Training Resources and Interpreters CPD – and has also delivered CPD courses for interpreters, for AIIC, SFT, ATA and several EU institutions. He is also the author of, among others, Note-Taking for Consecutive Interpreting: A Short Course, which has become a seminal text.
