Event description

Description

‘Notes from a Biscuit Tin’ is a series of public exchanges between philosophers, poets and artists on various themes from the work of English philosopher Mary Midgley, whose centenary occurs this year.

The New York instalment, at Greenpoint's Arete Venue and Gallery, features philosophy, poetry and live music. Poet Laura Mullen, MacArthur fellow and flutist Claire Chase, and philosopher Jenny Judge explore Midgley's views on the relationship between poetry, art and the natural world.

Judge will introduce Midgley's philosophical vision. Mullen will read a new poem commissioned for the event, and Chase will perform improvisatory works for solo flute and electronics.
