Notting Hill Unplugged: Andrew Ashong
Thu 13 October 2016, 19:00 – 22:00 BST
"Andrew Ashong stands out. We haven't had one of these for a while: a hazy, jazzy dreamer of a young soul rebel who in his music references Roy Ayers and Shuggie Otis, Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye....It's soul music for people who have been dismayed by most of the major developments in soul music of the last two, even three, decades. "
Paul Lester, The Guardian
Andrew Ashong will be returning to Book and Kitchen's Notting Hill Unplugged on October 13th. Hailing from South London, by way of Ghana, Andrew has a mixed bag of talents; singer, song-writer, producer and DJ. He released the EP 'Flowers' with Theo Parrish in 2012, with the title track, ‘Flowers’ winning ‘Track of the Year’ at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2013. He then released the 'Andrew Ashong EP' in 2014 which moved away from the dance-floor beats of 'Flowers' to greater explore soul and jazz feels. Andrew has also featured on 'Day like This/Feel Loved' by Tony Allen and Theo Parish. His work as a DJ and producer has been very significant in the UK scene and he still spins his wonderful vinyl collection across the country.
