Event Details

MaMaLu Project is a very exciting Trio formed by Marta Capponi, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Marcelo Andrade (African Tree) on guitar, saxophone, flute and violin, guitarist Luca Boscagin who travels with ease from Jazz to Brazilian and Electronic Music, Master of Loops and Guitar Effects. Their repertoire is a blend of original compositions, brazilian, jazz and pop stone songs revisited with a unique sound.

“Marta Capponi isn’t just a singer, she is an amazing musician who takes her craft seriously. In Marta’s improvisation one hears the knowledge and feel she has for rhythm, melodies and harmony.  Powerful.” Heidi Vogel

“…raw, original talent…her voice—crystal clear, precisely controlled, robust in the high notes, yet smooth and sentimental in the delivery of the softer ones. Using it as an instrument, in the end of the song she displayed the first instance of her immense talent in scatting, defining what jazz improvisation is all about.” Thanasis Kalantzis for Cabaret Scenes

” Marta Capponi, a sparkle with a beautiful voice….” Antonio Forcione

“Marcelo Andrade’s…..African Tree serves notice to a very substantial talent.”Jazzwise

Marta Capponi – Vocals – is a conservatoire trained Jazz/Brazilian and Contemporary singer with a powerful and exquisite voice. Whether readily combining her jazz grounded vocal style together with contemporary music, or serving up a broad range of diverse styles; from Afro/Portugese songs to Classic Jazz songs, the listener is left simply breathless. Marta’s delicious tones are reminicent of time gone too soon.Uniquely performing with such natural primal expression, she takes hold of any song, (be it an original or a standard), and turns it inside out with such beauty. She is a contemporary artist that is a vocal power house, Not satisfied with just that Marta is also a composer and musical director, who creates mature songs that are delivered with a strong vocal style.

Marcelo Andrade – Vocals, Guitar, Saxophone, Flute & Violin – is an Award winning London-based Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He has recently released his debut solo album “African Tree” during his travels through East Africa, Europe and his homeland Brazil, recording over 70 people mostly using his laptop. As well as playing saxophones, flutes, violin, guitar and also singing, Marcelo also runs a regular Saxophone Masterclass in North London, and a Percussion, Composition and Dance Workshop together with long term associate percussionist Adriano Adewale and dancer Carolina Paulino. He also performs as a duo with Adriano Adewale, where he plays, amongst other instruments, the “Rabeca” – the predecessor of today’s violin, mostly heard in north-earstern Brazilian Music.

Luca Boscagin – Guitar – is a guitarist and composer and arranger. After studying in Verona (Italy) with Dodo Castelli he developed his interest in improvisation and took several lessons with two of the foremost italian guitarists: Tolo Marton and Sandro Gibellini.

His major musical influences were: Led Zeppelin, Genesis, E.L.P, King Crimson, Wishbone Ash, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Albert king and others.
Then he started listening to jazz, coming across artists such as: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Herbie Hancock and many many others.

Book and Kitchen

Book and Kitchen is a bookshop with a small cafe, art gallery and events space hosting literary evenings, supper clubs, music nights and more. We opened our doors on the wonderfully-named All Saints Road in the spring of 2013, and our aim is to combine the literary and culinary in a fresh and modern setting.

We are a neighbourhood bookshop integrated in the thriving local community, and we host events and activities for all age groups and interests.

Book and Kitchen isn't just a retail space selling books. It is also a social hub where people can flick through a second hand book over a coffee, enjoy a salad with a game of backgammon or get stuck into a random discussion with other visitors. We live by the motto Eat, Drink, Read, Talk.
